Lao Tzu and Tao Te Ching
Lao Tzu and Tao Te Ching: Lao Tzu, surnamed Li, named Er, was a thinker and philosopher in ancient China. Tao Te Ching, also known as Lao Tzu, is an important origin of Philosophical Taoism.

Lao Tzu: 
Lao Tzu was born in the Spring and Autumn Period in China. He was born in Qurenli neighbourhood of Li Village, County of Ku, in the state of Chu. He was also named Bo Yang. It is said that Lao Tzu had white eyebrows and beard when he was born, so he was called “Lao Tzu” , which means “old man” in Chinese, by later generations. Lao Tzu was a great thinker and philosopher in ancient China, the founder of Taoism, which known as “The Ancestor of Taoism”. He was given the title of “Senior Lord Taishang” by Emperor Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty, and was the 18th incarnation of “Senior Lord Taishang”, one of the “Three Qing Immortals” of Taoism.

Tao Te Ching: 
Tao Te Ching, written by Lao Tzu, is an important origin of Philosophical Taoism. It is divided into two parts, the first of which is "De Jing", and the second is "Dao Jing", with 81 chapters and 5000 words in total. It is the first complete philosophical work in Chinese history and also has a high status in the history of Philosophy in the world. Its essence is simple dialectics, and advocates "govern by doing nothing that goes against nature". Its theory has a profound influence on the development of China's philosophy.

Lao Tzu and Tao Te Ching have had a profound impact on traditional philosophy, religion, politics and science. Tao Te Ching has been translated into several foreign languages, and become the most widely published cultural classic besides the Bible. Therefore, Lao Tzu has been listed as one of the 100 historical celebrities in the world.
